The Macmillan Information and Support POD
The Macmillan Information and Support POD is located on the ground floor of Barnsley Hospital, opposite the escalator leading to the Pharmacy and Outpatients departments.
The Macmillan Information and Support POD
Opened in January 2024, the POD welcomed over 1,000 visitors in its first 12 months, showing just how valued this service is within our community. The official launch took place during the Macmillan Coffee Morning in September 2025, where the Mayor of Barnsley formally opened the POD.
A Safe and Supportive Space
The POD provides a welcoming environment for patients, families, friends, carers and staff seeking information, emotional support or guidance.
When you visit, you’ll be greeted by a member of hospital staff alongside one of our dedicated Macmillan volunteers. Together, they can offer:
- Emotional support and a listening ear
- Trusted Macmillan information
- Signposting to local services
- Links to Barnsley Hospital cancer teams where appropriate
Inside the POD, you’ll also find a quiet area where you can sit, talk and take the time you need.

Information You Can Trust
We offer a wide range of Macmillan information booklets to take away, along with details of local services and other useful resources. If the POD is closed, you can access additional information booklets from the leaflet display directly outside.
Drop-In Service – No Appointment Needed
The Macmillan POD is a drop-in service, so you are welcome to visit as often as you need.
Due to the size and location of the POD, we kindly ask visitors to be mindful of others who may need privacy. If the POD looks busy, you may be asked to return later or leave your contact details so a member of the team can get in touch.
