Physical Exercise

It is important to continue doing the things you enjoy during your diagnosis and treatment.
We know this can often be difficult if you are experiencing fatigue or side effects of treatment.
Research does show that exercise can really benefit you long term with your mood and mobility. Even if it is just a gentle walk around your garden or local park. If you are worried about exercising then please speak to your Cancer team.

Active Together

Active Together is a cancer prehabilitation and rehabilitation service that is collaboratively run by Barnsley Hospital and Barnsley Premier Leisure, and funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research. The Active Together programme helps people to prepare for their cancer treatment and recover from it afterwards. This includes support with physical activity and exercise, healthy eating and mental wellbeing. Active Together works with people to identify and achieve goals that matter to them in their life, with the intention of supporting lifestyle changes that improve quality of life. Referrals into the programme are made by health professionals upon diagnosis for people undergoing curative intent cancer treatment.

Exercise and staying active has been shown to significantly enhance the quality of life of those affected by cancer at all stages of the cancer trajectory and may reduce or prevent some cancer treatment toxicities.
